BAM PHOTOGRAPHIC RESCUE PROJECT: saving what we can of the past (2006) 18':56''
A documentary about photo studios in Bam, the Iranian city which was almost completely destroyed by earthquake. After Bam earthquake, Parisa Damandan, Iranian photographer and photo-archivist set out to Bam with the idea of retrieving the photographs of photo studios from the debris. Parisa started digging on her own, some joined in afterwards and gradually people too participated and helped her to find the survived photos.
The photos were then arranged into a photo-list of personnel photos and snapshots from all studios in Bam. Lots of people in the photographs were recognized by the city survivors. The negatives were returned to the photographers who were alive.
This documentary has been screened in Leiden University in Netherlands in Artists’ Strategies, Photography and Archives symposium in 25th of April in 2006 and the Artists organization in Tehran (2008).
